Sketchbook Series

My sketchbook series began on a restless night in September, 2019. My mind was cluttered with the noise of endless anxiety; the words themselves floated chaotically above me, while walls of worry closed in around me.

My husband slept beside me, peaceful and quiet, and it felt like the space around him was clearer than mountain air, while I tossed and turned in a sea of smog. The image was so clear in my mind - me, surrounded by a deluge of sentences and words; while he slept in open, empty space. I laughed, and was struck with the sudden urge to draw what I saw. After a quick sketch, I fell asleep.

In the years since, my Sketchbook Snapshot Series has become an essential ritual and nightly practice alongside journaling that not only helps me express the things I don’t have words for, but captures the moments and emotions from my day-to-day life, however big or small.
